When I was first learning Hangul (한글), I took forever to read each individual syllable and to read an entire phrase, much less a sentence, took so much effort. By the time I managed to decipher the words at the end, I would have forgotten how the words sounded like in the beginning. Now that I can more or less read hangul, the problem when reading a sentence is remembering the meaning of the words I read in the beginning while I read the sentence till the end. =.= Well, I guess with more practice, it will no longer be a problem.
Another problem I have is with the way the sentences are structured. Even if I know the meaning of the words, the way they are arranged, being so alien compared to English, makes it hard to understand the sentence as a whole. For example, if I tried listening to the speech in the dramas I watch, I would sort of understand the gist, but I wouldn't be able to construct a sentence in English like the subtitles.
That's why I feel kinda stuck in my learning nowadays. The speech is too fast and I'm still lacking knowledge on a ton of grammar and vocab so I can barely understand even 10% of the shows that I watch. And even when I do understand the words, I feel that a person who knows nothing about the language would be able to understand too, based on their actions and scenarios. Disheartening.
