About

My first brush with the Korean language was probably the Korean drama, Full House. Not long after that, I went to Korea in a tour group with my parents, uncle, aunt and grandma. That was around mid 2007. I don’t remember much of what happened there, just getting swept around by the tour guide to different places in Korea. Watched Princess Hours some time after that.

I lost touch with Korean for a long time, until a friend recommended that I watch Secret Garden in 2012 September. And around that time, a colleague introduced loads of kpop songs to me (mostly YGE songs), and I got hooked onto the song Today by G-Dragon. Started fangirling ever since.

So around then, I half-heartedly thought to pick up Korean, by using romanisation and kdramas, but I didn’t get really far because the Korean pronunciation differs depending on the words used and stuff. I travelled to Korea again for a holiday with my colleagues in December. I have much better memories of it than before, but I regret not being able to interact more with Koreans in their native language.

Motivation came in March 2013, in the form of a blog and book on how to self-study Korean. It encouraged me to see that someone else has done it (especially someone from the same country as me); that it’s possible without having to spend money to go to a school. So in April 2013, I decided to create this blog to write about my Korean learning journey and hopefully practise writing Korean too.

The name of blog includes G-Dragon's "G" because I’m a fan of his, and he has tons of variety shows, CFs, songs, parodies of shows, BTS, concerts, radio shows, tweets, Line messages, Instagram captions and whatnots to learn from. I’m also motivated to pick up enough Korean to understand him without subs/trans. I’ll also be using examples from him in my blog. And I swear he has such a good speaking voice.

The other "G" this blog's title refers to is So Ji Sub, an actor. Coincidentally, both of them has the same first hangul character in their first name, 지 which sounds like G. So Ji Sub had published several songs under the name "G" too. This guy also has a ton of dramas, movies, CFs, (only one variety show that's mostly unsubbed) and personal website to pick up Korean from. kekek.
